Spam is a big problem in the modern email world. You receive dozens, maybe even hundreds, of email messages each day. But not all those email messages are helpful or even wanted. It could be that someone you know has been sending you distracting messages. Or maybe, you’ve subscribed to an email newsletter you no longer want to receive. Perhaps, the unwanted messages are spam—messages from a complete stranger.
No matter what the circumstances, if you’re receiving unwanted emails then there are steps you can take to manage or even eliminate those unwanted messages. In this tutorial, I’ll explain how to block spam emails completely.
1. Block and Filter Spam Email on Gmail
Most email services offer some sort of spam filtering, and Google’s is very effective. Gmail’s attempt to block spam emails is 100% effective. The following steps will guide you can block unwanted emails in your Gmail account:
Step 1: Head over to Gmail and login to your account.
Step 2: As soon as you are logged into your Gmail account, search for that person’s name or unknown sender from any website like dominos, Amazon, etc. in the search box at the top.
Step 3: After searching the name of the sender, open the mail and hit the down arrow to the far right of the sender’s name.
Step 4: Now click on block “Sender name” from the list that drops down.
Step 5: Finally, click on block to confirm. The emails from that sender will be blocked.
This way you have successfully blocked spam emails on Gmail.
2. How to Block and Filter Spam Emails on Yahoo
Yahoo is one of the best mail service platforms. It has always managed to be one of the favorites & widely used mailing services all over the world. With a huge customer base of millions of users worldwide, Yahoo has been providing its mail services for communication and other purposes. The following will be the guide to block spam emails in your Yahoo account:
Step 1: Head over to Yahoo Mail and log in to your account.
Step 2: Hover the mouse cursor over the Settings gear icon (⚙) in yahoo mail or click that gear.
Step 3: As soon as you click on the gear icon, you have to select Settings from the menu that has appeared.
Step 4: Now head over to Blocked Addresses Category and Type the unwanted email address in Add an address field.
Step 5: Once you are done with adding the addresses click on Block option and then click on Save. The following emails will be blocked now in your account.
NOTE: You can currently block unwanted email addresses only in the desktop version of Yahoo Mail. You cannot block such emails from Yahoo Mail Mobile.
3. Block Unwanted Emails on Hotmail/Outlook
Hotmail is offering many new features such as increased file attachment size, ability to view, edit and share documents online, real-time document collaboration, conversation view, better mobile experience etc. the following is the guide to block spam messages in your Hotmail account:
Step 1: Head over to Hotmail from your browser and log in to your account.
Step 2: Click the Settings icon at the top right corner of the window and select Options.
Step 3: Follow the more options link and a list of options will appear on the left side of the window. Click on ”Junk email” section on the link and follow the safe and block senders link.
Step 4: Click on the blocked senders.
Step 5: As soon as blocked senders link is open, enter the email address or domain on the box labeled Blocked email address or domain and click Add to List(+). The following emails will be blocked in your account.
Note: Please make sure that the emails that you have blocked are not included on your Safe sender’s list or Contacts lists so that the rules and blocked senders will work properly.
4. Block Spam Emails on iCloud Mail
iCloud Mail is a free email service from Apple with ample storage, IMAP access, and an elegantly functional web application. However, iCloud does not offer labels or other more advanced tools for productivity and for organizing mail. Anyways, lets see how to block unwanted emails on iCloud:
Step 1: Head over to iCloud Mail and login to your account.
Step 2: Firstly open a message from the sender you want to block. Obviously, you can block an address without a message from the sender at hand and open. However, setting up the rule to perform the block will be easier with the email open.
Step 3: Make sure the folder list is visible in iCloud Mail. If you do not see a list of mailboxes to the left, click the Show Mailboxes button (›) at the top of the message list.
Step 4: Click the Show Actions Menu gear icon (⚙) at the folder list bottom.
Step 5: Select Rules from the menu that appears.
Step 6: Click Add a Rule.
Step 7: Make sure the criterion for the new filter reads If a message is from. Enter the email address you want to block underneath. If you had a message from the sender open at the beginning, their email address has been entered automatically.
Make sure Move to Trash is selected. Click Done, the following emails will be blocked in your account.
