It’s literally a time of crisis at Cupertino based tech giant- Apple’s HQ, when a week before a serious threat to privacy of all iOS users was brought into light by none other than security research specialist Andreas Kurtz. What this threat is? Well, it leaves attachments of iOS mail users without any encryption being applied to them. While Apple has been notified about this bug, and is apparently working to come up with a fix for the same, it has already been 6 full days and no iOS update can be sensed coming out of the Cupertino based HQ of Apple. At such a time, we have members of jailbreak community springing into action, and yes, finally they have a working tweak to cure this illness, that too, without having the need to spend a single buck.
Ryan Petrich, a member of jailbreak community has released a free-to-download Cydia tweak called Attachment Encryptor to fix this mail attachment encryption bug prevailing in iOS 7 – iOS 7.0.6. However, unless and until you are a tech-savy person, you won’t realize the cons of having this bug live within your iOS firmware. In simple words, anything you send as an attachment from your device can be accessed using specific skill set. Here’ how to get Attachment Encryptor on your iDevice, free of cost.
Step 1: Like all other jailbreak tweaks, make sure you have a jailbroken iDevice. Let’s assume you have already jailbroken your iDevice. Now head over to the Cydia app on your device springboard, and tap it to launch it.
Step 2: Now, you will have to add Ryan’s personal Cydia repository manually to download his critical bug fix. To do so, simply navigate to the Manage button in the bottom navigation menu, and then tap Sources button to add the following repository there.
Now, tap the Add Source button, and ignore all warnings. Wait for the screen to go black, and then tap Return To Cydia to go to the Cydia dashboard again.
Step 3: Navigate to Search button on the lower navigation menu and type Attachment Encryptor in the search box there.
Step 4: Simply tap on Install button to start the installation process which involves a black-screen coming up. Do not worry, it’s a usual process of installing an application through Cydia interface. Click on Return To Cydia button to exit Cydia after the tweak has completed installation.
That’s it. You don’t need to configure this tweak as it is an automatically compiling tweak which will add itself to your iOS firmware stream on it’s own. Now, your iDevice is safe against any data breach due to lack of privacy, courtesy Apple. Keep subscribed for more iOs How-tos, we are sure you’ll never regret.
