Earlier this week, Apple showcased it’s new members of MacBook family- 11″ and 13″ MacBook Air. As name suggests, these light weighted portable MacBook sports a major performance boost with Intel’s latest 4th Generation processors. Considering New MacBook Air and Retina MacBook Pro, you might be thinking which one to buy? Either this one or that one? Isn’t it? But certainly, it should not be the matter of concern as both New MacBook Air and Retina MacBook Pro features a huge difference among each other.
MacBook Air seems to be ultra thin(.68in) and ultra light(2.96 pounds) as compared to Retina MacBook Pro with .95in thick and weighing 4.5 pounds. Considering the prices, New MacBook Air will cost you $400 less as compared to Retina MacBook Pro. Now listen, don’t make any pre-assumptions about performance, as New MacBook Air has been packed with upgraded hardware that certainly narrowed the difference between the performance of two. Now, without wasting any time, let’s head over to New MacBook Air vs Retina MacBook Pro :
–> Display and Design
Considering the thickness and weight factor of Retina MacBook Pro, don’t be surprised to know that it is thin and light enough to meet the size metrics standards of Intel’s ultrabook. Moving onto port selections, it’s little better on MacBook Pro due to addition of HDMI and a second Thunderbolt port. Apart from that, everything seems to be same from two USB 3.0 ports to the SDXC card slot.
Now, this one is more of concern, the Display. As the name suggests, the Retina MacBook Pro 13-inch has razor sharp display. The Retina display is packed with mind blowing 2,560-by-1,600 resolution, displaying better than 1080p quality. Moreover, features such as HD video editing in full 1080p with wide space for all of your editing tools, this type of display is must for power users who works with HD video, and you won’t feel sorrow paying $400 extra for Retina MacBook Pro.
Winner : Retina MacBook Pro
We are quite surprised as Apple just released the New MacBook Air models and online retailers are up with MacBook Air 11 cases. Isn’t cool? Grab yours as soon as possible.
–> Hardware and Battery
As mentioned above, New MacBook Air sports stunning hardware upgrades with Intel’s 4th-generation Core i5 processor that amazingly improved the performance and graphic capabilities. Considering the hard-drive, the upgraded control boards offer 45 percent faster performance over the same 128GB capacity found in older MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models. If you are a casual user, I bet, you can’t differentiate between the performance of two.
Moving onto Battery life, the new 13-inch MacBook Air boosts the battery life from 7 hours of the old MacBook Air to an eye-catching 12 hours. Moreover, Apple claims that the New MacBook Air is capable of running 10hrs of iTune Movie on full charge.
We are not over yet, there’s a new feature which has been added on New MacBook Air that sets it ahead of Retina MacBook Pro, and that’s the inclusion of 802.11ac wireless networking. This new wireless standard offers a big boost in speed, with throughput of up to 1.3GBps available. However you must have an equally speedy 802.11ac router. Though this feature will not came handy for majority of users as this networking standard is quite new, but you can expect to enjoy this feature in near future.
Winner : New MacBook Air
–>Which one to buy?
From our point of view, New MacBook Air ssems to be the best choice for majority of users as none of the features are compromised by Apple. With great portability and priced at $1,099 for the 13-inch MacBook Air model with an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage, it’s one of the most efficient Mac laptops currently present in the market.
