Different Mail clients have put different restrictions on the way we utilise Emails, for instance, on Gmail I cannot send attachment size more than 25 MB. If I go by calculations you can say Gmail will only allow us to send just 4 songs as attachments on a particular mail, quite less in numbers, isn’t it? What If I want to send bunch of HD photos or a large movie to my friend? Don’t even think about it, either use third party apps like Dropbox or just settle with sharing the External Hard drive.

Though, earlier it was cumbersome task to Send Large Files Through Email On iPhone or Mac, but folks at Apple are always known for creativity to enhance the user experience on iDevices. For the same, Apple introduced us with Mail Drop, a nifty workaround which will let users to send file of any type upto 5GB in size.

“With Mail Drop, you can send attachments up to 5 GB in size. You can send these attachments right from Mail on your Mac, the Mail app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, and from iCloud.com on your Mac or PC. All files types are supported and attachments don’t count against your iCloud storage.” – From Apple

Pre-requisite Before You Send Large Files Through Email On iPhone :

  • Make sure you use Stock Mail App to send attachment size more than 25 MB. Mail Drop on iDevice is compatible with only Stock Mail App.
  • Mail Drop works with Mac using OS X Yosemite or later, an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9.2 or later.
  • Please note, it’s completely okay if the recipients doesn’t have iCloud account or iDevice but he/she have to download the Mail Drop attachments within 30 days, else it’ll expire.

How To Send File More Than 25mb Through Email :

Step 1 : The best thing is Mail Drop engages itself automatically if file size exceed the limits, you don’t have to enable it from Settings or somewhere else. You are already set to increase attachment size of Email on iPhone or any iDevice.

Step 2 : Once you exceed the attachment size limit which is 25MB, you will be welcomed with pop up conveying to send attachment as Mail Drop.

Step 3 : Tap on Use Mail Drop and file will be uploaded to iCloud. Once the upload completes, send the mail. Your sent Email will contain the attachment download link which recipient has to download within 30 days.
